Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about RIDEBOX — for riders, drivers, partners, and investors.

How do I book a ride with RIDEBOX?

Visit any RideBox hub at major airports, shopping malls, universities, or public transport nodes. Use the kiosk screen to enter your destination, confirm the fixed upfront fare, and get matched with a vetted driver within minutes. You can also book through our mobile app if you're already a registered user.

What happens if there's load shedding?

Our hubs operate at 0% grid dependency. Every RideBox unit has built-in solar arrays and lithium battery backups — so you can book and get a ride even during Eskom load shedding. The system continues to run smoothly and securely, no matter the grid conditions.

How is pricing determined? Is there surge pricing?

All RIDEBOX fares are fixed — you see the price before you book, and it never changes. We do not use surge pricing. Our transparent model means you always know exactly what you're paying, regardless of peak hours or demand.

What languages does RIDEBOX support?

We support all 11 official South African languages via our AI-powered interface. Whether you prefer English, Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, or any other official language, you can interact with our platform in your language of choice. This is especially important for tourists and elderly users who may not be fluent in English.

How does RIDEBOX keep me safe?

Your safety is our top priority. Every RIDEBOX driver undergoes thorough vetting and facial verification. All trips are actively tracked in real time, and you have immediate access to an SOS panic button if you ever feel unsafe. We also employ trained safety personnel and maintain strict compliance with local regulations.

Can I pay with different payment methods?

Yes. We accept cash, card payments, and mobile money (Vodacom M-Pesa, FNB eBucks, etc.). For international visitors, we offer automatic currency conversion at fair market rates. Payment can be completed at the kiosk or through the mobile app before or after your trip.

How do I become a RIDEBOX driver?

To become a RIDEBOX driver, you must have a valid South African driver's license, a roadworthy vehicle, proof of vehicle ownership or rental agreement, and proof of residency. You'll also need to pass our vetting process, which includes a background check and facial verification. Contact our driver support team at drivers@rideboxapp.com to start the application process.

How much do drivers earn per trip?

Earnings are entirely transparent. Before accepting any trip, you'll see the exact fare, distance, and estimated time. You know exactly what you'll earn. There are no hidden deductions, no algorithmic surprises — just clear, fair compensation for every trip completed. Average earnings vary by location and trip distance.

Do drivers get training or support?

Absolutely. All drivers receive comprehensive onboarding training on safety protocols, customer service standards, and platform navigation. We also provide ongoing professional development, access to 24/7 support channels, and a dedicated driver advocate team. Your success is our success.

What if there's a problem during a trip?

You can contact our support team instantly through the in-app messaging system or via phone. Our support team is available 24/7 and can help resolve disputes, coordinate roadside assistance, or address any concerns. We take driver safety and fair treatment very seriously.

Can municipalities integrate a RIDEBOX hub?

Yes. We partner with municipalities to deploy hubs at transport nodes, civic centres, and public spaces. Our infrastructure adds zero burden to the local power grid — our hubs are completely solar-powered. Contact our partnerships team at partnerships@rideboxapp.com to discuss deployment opportunities.

What is the franchise model?

RIDEBOX franchisees can own and operate a hub in their city. You manage the hub independently, set your own operational hours, and earn passive revenue from the high-visibility digital advertising screens built into every kiosk. We provide all hardware, software, driver network access, and ongoing operational support.

How can investors support RIDEBOX?

We are actively seeking impact investors, strategic partners, and venture capital to accelerate our expansion across South Africa. We offer transparent financial reporting, clear growth metrics, and alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Interested investors should contact investors@rideboxapp.com.

Where can I find a RIDEBOX hub?

RIDEBOX hubs are currently deployed at major airports (JNB, CPT, DUR), shopping malls, universities, and public transport interchanges across South Africa. Use our mobile app or website to see the exact locations of hubs near you. We're expanding to new cities regularly.

Does RIDEBOX operate in my city?

RIDEBOX is currently operational in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, with rapid expansion planned. Check our app to see if service is available in your location. If it's not yet available, you can sign up for notifications when we launch in your city.

How can I provide feedback or report an issue?

We welcome your feedback. Use the in-app feedback form, email support@rideboxapp.com, or fill out the contact form on our website. Your input helps us improve the service for everyone. Response times vary but we prioritize urgent safety concerns.
